“Cumberland just felt right.” were the words of Coffee County’s Sara Brown shortly before signing a basketball scholarship with Cumberland University in a ceremony at CHS on Monday.  Brown, who averaged 8 points per game and ranked as one of the leagues top defenders, had fielded interest from other colleges and turned down a volleyball/basketball scholarship from Martin Methodist University.  Cumberland Coach Jeremy Lewis was very complimentary of Brown and liked her combination of shooting, quickness and tenacity.  “We invited Sara to our campus and our players loved her.  We wanted to recruit a good person, a good student and a good basketball player and Sara does all 3 of those things.”  Sara also liked the fact that Cumberland, located in Lebanon, Tennessee, is close enough for her parents and grandparents to watch her play.  “My grandparents are my number 1 fans.” added Sara.  Brown also loved the small, beautiful campus and her future coaches and teammates.  Lewis, who will begin his 7th year as head coach for the Bulldogs, led his team to a berth in the 2015 NAIA Division 1 Women’s Basketball National Championship Tournament in March.   Cumberland is a member of the Mid-South Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
