In a match contested until the final minute, the Lady Rockets ran their season record to 5 and 0 on the year with a 3 to 2 win over Huntland on Tuesday at Dyer-Bouldin Field. The Lady Rockets scored all 3 of their goals in the first half to take a 3 to 1 lead into the half. Beatris Barrera hammered home a penalty kick home in the 9th minute to give the Lady Rockets an early 1-0 lead. Huntland evened the score on an odd man rush in the 19th minute as Riley Hazard scored off an assist from Camille Bland. The goal was the first surrendered by Westwood’s defense this season.
Westwood got goals from Faith Willoughby in the 21st minute and Barrera in the 26th minute which gave the Rockets a lead they would carry into the final 4 minutes. The Hornets pushed forward late as Kylea Micheal got behind the Rocket defense to register the Hornets 2nd goal and set up a dramatic 4 minute finish. Abbi Lowery made a pair of late saves for Westwood to seal the victory. The Lady Rockets host Lincoln County on Tuesday, September 8th at Dyer-Bouldin Field for their next match. Kick-off is set for a 6:00 PM.
