Turnovers and fouls in the 2nd quarter spelled doom for the Westwood Rocket basketball team as they dropped a 46 to 30 decision to Forrest on Thursday night in the home opener at the Joel Vinson Gym. Isaiah Owens nailed a 3 pointer in the waning seconds of the 1st quarter to give Westwood an 11 to 10 lead entering the 2nd period. The visiting Rockets of Forrest started the 2nd quarter on an 8 to 0 run and never trailed again as Westwood falls to 0 and 2 on the season. The Rockets were led in scoring by Rod Brinkley who had 8 points while Jake Hollandsworth added 7. Shawn Anderson finished with 6 points for Westwood
A pair of 2nd quarter 3 pointers from Karen Medina propelled the Lady Rockets to a 15 to 7 halftime lead as Westwood got a 26 to 19 win over Forrest. Westwood was led in scoring by Medina who finished with 8 points. Beatris Barrera finished with 7 points while Ashley Starks and Morgan Jones both finished with 4 points. With the win, the Lady Rockets are 2 and 0 on the young season. Westwood will be back at home on Monday night as Cascade. The girls game is set to tip off at 6 PM.
