Boone Riddle’s 32 yard field goal in the first quarter was the only score Coffee County could muster against Smyrna on Friday night at Carden-Jarrell Field. Coffee County was held to 151 yards of total offense on the night as they fell by a score of 38 to 3 in their first Region 2-6A game of the season. Smyrna tacked on 10 points in the final 1:51 of the first half to take a 24 to 3 lead into the locker room at the half. Coffee County took the first drive of the second half into the Smyrna Red Zone before having their drive stall. The Smyrna defense was effective all night long holding Coffee County to 151 yards of total offense in the game.
Sophomore Alontae Taylor led the Coffee County offense as he rushed 17 times for 57 yards and was 5 for 13 passing for 23 yards and 1 interception. Tyrese McGee caught 3 of those passes for 19 yards while Gavin Husted rushed 6 times for 46 yards to earn the Farm Bureau/Thunder Radio Player of the Game award. The loss drops the Raiders record to 1 and 2 on the season and 0 and 1 in region play. Coffee County travels to Cleveland next week for a 6:30 PM Central Time kickoff with Walker Valley.
