Prep Cross Country Teams in Action Saturday

The CHS and Westwood Cross Country teams will compete in the Midstate Cross Country Championship on Saturday at Sharp Springs Park in Smyrna.  Both teams look for the opportunity to qualify runners for the state meets  Th

e high school  meet  is set for Saturday, November 1st in Nashville and the middle school state is slated for October 18 in Knoxville.  This Saturday, the CHS boys will get underway at 8:30 AM with the Girls racing at 9:15.  The Westwood boys get underway at 1:30 PM with the girls racing at 2:00.

Both teams are coming off strong performances last week in the Lincoln County meet.  For CHS, the boys finished 2nd out of nine teams as all 7 of the Raider runners finished with personal best times.  The Raiders had 3 runners in the Top 10 as  Andy Rosson again led the way with his 2nd place finish at  a time of 17:55 which was 41 seconds faster than his previous best time. Scott Randolph turned in his best time of the year running an 18:24 and placing 5th overall. Next for the Raiders was Maxwell Nicoll who placed 6th with a time of 18:40.  The CHS girls finally fielded enough runners to qualify for a team score as they finished 5th out of 8 teams.  Makenzie Morgan who ran her best time of the year with a time of 24:02 finishing 10th overall cutting 55 seconds off her former best.  Nadja Hansen finished 14th with a new personal best while Claudia Bertuzzi, Kayla McCormick and Claire Spellings all recorded new personal bests.

Westwood boys and girls finished 2nd in their middle school races.  For the Rockets, Andres Cavalie finished 2nd with a time of 13:21 while Samuel Workman finished in 3rd place at 13:44.  Jacob Moore, Chandler Poe and Eric Randolph finished 12th, 14th and 17th respectively out of nearly 40 runners.  In the Girls Varsity Race, M. E. Spradley finished in 6th Place with Sunshine Mai and Katharine Hills finished in 11th and 12th place respectively out of a field of 40 runners.
