Two former Motlow College student athletes will continue their education and athletic careers at four-year universities following outstanding sophomore seasons at Motlow. Both recently earned their associate degree during Motlow’s May 10 graduation ceremonies.
Makenzie Hopkins from Cornersville signed to continue playing softball at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tenn. Hopkins was a two-year starter for the Lady Bucks at shortstop and completed her career with a .359 batting average. She hit .373 during the 2014 season with 10 doubles and 29 runs batted in.
Tre’von (Trey) James is from Darlington, S.C. and came to Motlow for his sophomore year after spending his freshman season at Coastal Carolina University. The 6’5” forward has committed to play at Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C. He averaged 10.6 points, 12.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.5 blocked shots per game.
James’ 345 rebounds is the third most rebounds in a single season in Motlow’s 45-year basketball history and the sixth most in career history, which includes those who played two years for the Bucks. James had at least a dozen double-doubles during the season and pulled down 20 rebounds in one game, the seventh most in school history.
