Two goals in the first 8 minutes and a supportive home crowd were not enough to keep the Coffee County CHS soccer team season alive as they dropped a 3 to 2 decision to Lincoln County on Saturday night in the 1st round of the District 8-AAA soccer tournament. The Lady Raiders got off to a hot start on a wet and cool night at the Red Raider soccer field as Eliza Masters buried a nice cross from Holli Smithson in the 4th minute to give the Lady Raiders a 1 to 0 lead. 4 minutes later, Alex Ellison hit a 35 yard missile from in front of the net over the Lady Falcon keeper to make the score 2 to 0 and it looked like the rout was on for Coffee County. Lincoln County’s Caragon Treola cut the lead in half 3 minutes later from the right wing and that 2 to 1 score held up until halftime. Lincoln County managed to tie the score in the 47th minute as Coffee County deflected a Lincoln County shot past Lady Raider keeper Ali Shelton off of a set piece. From there, each defense held tight as the game ended in regulation tied at 2. Lincoln County’s Treola scored late in the first of two 10 minute extra periods to advance the Falcons to Tuesday’s soccer semifinals. With the loss, the Lady Raider season came to a close marking the end of the high school careers of 3 senior Lady Raiders. Seniors Taylor Deberry, Alex Ellison and Andrea Fisher each played well in their final contest as the Lady Raiders finished the season with a record of 6 wins, 8 losses and 3 draws.
