The Coffee County Middle School basketball teams opened the regular season in winning fashion on Monday night at home as they swept a pair of games from the rival Trojans of South Franklin. A hot shooting first half saw the Lady Raiders drain five 3 pointers and force a dozen turnovers on their way to a 49 to 30 win. The Lady Raiders raced out to a 10 to 2 lead in the first 2 minutes of the game as South had no answer for Coffee County’s quickness and ball movement. The Lady Raiders were led in scoring by Julia Duncan who had 15 points, Ellie Graham and Bella Vinson each added 14 points for Coffee County.

Kyle Farless hit a 3 pointer in the waning seconds of the first half to give the Red Raiders a lead that they would not relinquish in a 27 to 21 defeat of South in the boys game. Farless’ 3 point basket made the halftime score 17 to 16 in favor of Coffee County. Coffee County used their interior size in the 2nd half as Trevor Horne and Brandon Jernigan combined for 7 of the Raiders last 10 points. Jernigan led Coffee County in scoring with 11 points while Farless finished with 5 points and Horne had 4 points.
Coffee County will be back at home on Thursday night as they welcome North Franklin to the CCMS gym. The girls’ game gets underway at 6 PM.
