Coffee County Middle School Football Has Strong Scrimmage Performance on Saturday

CCMS Football helmetA week of practice to correct some problems from last Friday’s scrimmage at Rock Springs was the winning recipe for the Coffee County Middle School football team on Saturday. The Red Raiders defeated Grundy Co Middle and Flintville in 3 sessions of varsity scrimmage action in preparation for Tuesday’s season opener.
Coach Brock Freeze was pleased with his offense’s performance and the performance of his defensive front 7. Grundy Co had some success in the passing game, but a Blanton Brown touchdown pass and 2 point conversion were the difference as the Raiders claimed an 8 to 6 win in the first session. In session 2, the Raiders dominated both lines of scrimmage in a 20 to 0 shut out of Flintville. Freeze shared praise for how the Raiders line blocked and how the offense executed in the win.
The varsity team closed the day with a 20 to 8 win over Grundy County as the 2 teams worked exclusively in goal line situations. “We did a good job of stopping the run all day, and it showed in (the) goal line(set)” said Freeze. “Our backs ran hard and I am pleased with our effort” added Freeze. The Raiders open the season at home on Tuesday night at 6:30 PM as Whitwell comes to Carden-Jarrell Field. Tuesday night also marks the season premiere of Home Town Tuesday as Thunder Radio will broadcast the game live beginning with the 6:15 pregame show.
