CCMS Basketball Advances to Finals of Woodbury Scrimmage Tournament

The Coffee County Middle School varsity basketball teams advanced to the tournament finals of the Woodbury Border War preseason tournament on Thursday night with a pair of wins in the semifinals. The Lady Raiders blew open a close game in the 2nd quarter in beating North Elementary of Altamont 55 to 16. After taking a 10 to 7 lead after the first quarter, the Lady Raiders held North to 9 points the rest of the way. Julia Duncan led Coffee County in scoring with 16 points and Bella Vinson added 11. Coffee County will take on Woodland on Friday night in the scrimmage tournament championship game beginning at 7 PM.
The Red Raiders had no trouble in their semifinal as they posted a 36 to 7 halftime lead to rout Auburntown 56 to 16. Trenton Scrivnor was the leading scorer for Coffee County as he had 13 points. Brandon Jernigan added 9 points for the Raiders. The Raiders advanced to the finals where they will take on Swiss Memorial from Gruetli-Laager. That game is set to tip off at 8:15. The Raiders and Lady Raiders open the regular season on Monday at home as they welcome South Franklin to the CCMS Gym.
