Thirteen big plays on Friday night by Oakland dropped Coffee County on Friday night by a final score of 48 to 0. In a game that saw Coffee County get the first scoring opportunity, a blocked field goal by Oakland set up a 71 yard TD run by the Patriots to open the scoring with 8:09 left in the first quarter. The Patriots used 10 plays of more than 10 yards in the first half to build a 35 to 0 lead at intermission. A stout Oakland defense held Coffee County to 114 total yards and 4 first downs while forcing 3 Red Raider turnovers.
Coffee County got a big play of their own as freshman Andrew Mahaffey got the first interception of the year throw by Oakland QB Brandon Matthews. The interception stopped a potential scoring drive in the first half and earned Mahaffey the Thunder Radio/Farm Bureau Player of the game honor. Alontae Taylor led 8 Red Raiders runners as he carried the ball 9 times for 58 yards. DeAaron Rozier rushed 7 times for 20 yards while Mill Harner had 19 yards on 8 carries. The loss drops Coffee County to 0 and 3 in Region 2-6A play. Coffee County travels to Cookeville next Friday in a 7 PM region contest.
