4/26/12 —- Howard Buford “Bootsie” Goforth

Funeral services for Mr. Howard Buford “Bootsie” Goforth, age 69, of Manchester, will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 26 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. John Bush officiating.

Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Goforth passed away Sunday evening at Life Care Center in Tullahoma.

Mr. Goforth was born in Coffee County, TN, the son of the late James Buford and Nellie Letha McMahan Goforth.    In earlier years, he was employed at Batesville Casket Company.  Bootsie enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling and westerns, and playing rook but his greatest love was coaching Babe Ruth baseball.  He was the coach of the Braves Babe Ruth ball team for 35 of the 36 years that he was involved in the league.  He was recognized in the all-star edition of “Who’s Who in Babe Ruth League” at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.

In addition to his parents, Bootsie was also preceded in death by one sister, Deborah Kay Smartt.  He is survived by one brother, Steve Thomas Goforth and one sister, Martha Fay Hahn, both of Manchester; nieces, Celeste Francisco, Christy Smartt, Alethia Rawn, Tracy Goforth, and Sherri Briggs; nephews, Gary Smartt and Brian Goforth; many great nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Park Partners, Attn:  Bonnie Gamble, P.O. Box 776, Manchester, TN  37349, which will be used to benefit Babe Ruth Baseball in Manchester.
