CORDELL WINSTON GARNER, age 73, of Winchester, Tenn., departed this life on Monday, January 29, 2018, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., losing his battle with cancer. Mr. Garner was born on June 4, 1944, to the late Lawrence B. Garner and Huldah Fowlkes Garner in Sherwood, Tenn. Mr. Garner was of the Baptist Faith. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Safety Specialist and retired after 23 years. He was then employed at A.E.D.C. in Tullahoma for 15 years as a Test Instrument Technician. Mr. Garner enjoyed Barbequing at home and playing cards. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and “Papa”. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers; Lawrence, Bobby D. and Leon Garner and sisters; Catherine Stevens, Vera Johnson, Mary Etta Taylor, Linda Stevens, and Brenda Roberts.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Garner of Winchester, daughters; Cari Gowin and husband, Mike of Ringgold, Ga., Linda Spangler of Virginia Beach, Va., 4-Grandchildren; Felicia Hill of Winchester, Shawna Hill of Winchester, Billy Fann of Estill Springs, Faith Spangler of Virginia Beach, Va., 8-Great-Grandchildren, sisters; Elizabeth Davenport of Chattsworth, Ga., and Betty Roberts of Cowan, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mr. Garner will be held from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Friday Evening, February 2, in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services. Services for Mr. Garner are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 3, 2018, in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services, with Pastor Laneir Singleton, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester with Military Honors bestowed. Serving as pallbearers are Labrone Shetters, Jeremy Powers, Dylan DuBois, Larry Garner, David Johnson and Joshua Stephens.
