Robert “Bob” Smith, 84, passed away peacefully at Kindred Hospital in Nashville, TN., Thursday, October 23, 2014.
He was born April 12, 1930, in Lanett, Alabama, and was preceded in death by his parents, Lorraine and Tom Smith, both of West Point, GA, and his only brother Ben “Tommy” Smith of San Diego, CA.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Florence “Tut” Smith and two daughters, Lori (Paul) Bernkopf and Susan (Ron) Hayes, both of Melbourne, FL.
Mr. Smith spent five years in the U.S.A.F. as an all weather interceptor jet pilot. He then returned to Auburn University and graduated from the School of Engineering. He worked for Westinghouse prior to coming to A.E.D.C., where he retired in 1991 after working for 33 years.
Mr. Smith was an Eagle Scout and a scout leader for many years. He was active in the First United Methodist Church and his hobbies, other than his family, were fishing, golfing, and swimming.
It was Mr. Smith’s wishes that he be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, October 29, 2014, in the Chapel of Tullahoma Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Purdue and Bill Bethmann officiating.
