10/18/12 — Wesley Cordell Johnson

Wesley Cordell Johnson left the green fields and mountains of Coffee County on Oct. 14, 2012 to be with his lord.

He was born on August 15, 1937 in the Stephenson Community to the late Claude M. Johnson and Mollie Stubblefield Johnson.

A 1955 graduate of Manchester Central High School, he later spent 4 years in the US Navy with several tours of duty on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock. He retired from the Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 1986 after 25 years of service as an equipment operator in the shipping department. After retirement Wesley moved back to the Hillsboro Community and became a gentleman farmer on the Johnson family farms.

Wesley, sometimes affectionately called Hoss, was known throughout the County for his gentle kidding, his quick smile, his frank but honest comments, and His “never met a stranger” attitude.

For years he struggled with congestive heart failure and diabetes. He recently was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Wesley indeed fought the good fight before succumbing to his health issues.

Wesley was a member of the Hillsboro Methodist Church.
