Shooting Involving McMinnville Police leads to One Man’s Death

At the request of Warren County District Attorney General, TBI Special Agents continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting shortly after midnight Friday morning at a home in McMinnville.
Preliminary information indicates the incident began when law enforcement officers from the McMinnville Police Department arrived at a home in the 1300 block of Chestnut Ridge Road in an attempt to arrest 34 year-old Clifford Keller on several outstanding warrants. At the time, Keller was also out of jail on a furlough and recently failed to report back to jail when ordered. During the exchange Friday morning, the situation escalated when Keller threatened a police patrol dog that located him in a camper on the property, fired a weapon from inside the camper, and later brandished a weapon in the direction of the officers. Despite verbal orders to drop the weapon when approaching the officers, Keller did not comply. At least one officer fired his service weapon, striking Keller, who died at the scene. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
TBI Special Agents, assisted by a team of Forensic Scientists, will gather all relevant interviews and evidence as part of this ongoing investigation. Throughout the process, Agents will submit investigative findings to the District Attorney General for her review and consideration.
