7/29/12 — Joseph Easkrine Ricketts

Joseph Easkrine Ricketts of Decherd, TN died on July 21, 2012, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

He was born January 24, 1925, in Monteagle, TN.

He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Ricketts , mother Janie Trussell Ricketts, brother Egbert, and sisters Mary Ellis and Ruth Sutherland.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ricketts retired from the University of the South in Sewanee in 1987 where he was employed as a groundskeeper for the athletic department. He served in the Army 1943-45 and was a decorated veteran of World War II. In the Army, he was attached to the 36th Texas Infantry Division and fought in Naples, Rome, Southern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He received a Bronze Medal for heroic achievement in combat in February 1945 near Drusenheim, France. He was also the recipient of the EAME Theater Ribbon with five bronze Stars and a Bronze Arrowhead; a Good Conduct Medal; and a Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster. Mr. Ricketts also served in the Navy from February 1946 through December 1947, where he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Ricketts lived most of his life in the Sewanee and Decherd areas.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, July 29, 2012 in Harrison Cemetery in the Midway community.

7/25/12 — Raye Helton

Funeral services for Mrs. Raye Helton, age 81 of Manchester will be conducted Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Dr. Brenton Cox officiating.

Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00-9:00PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. Helton passed away Monday, July 23, 2012.

She was born August 29, 1930 in Lenoir City, Tennessee the daughter of the late A.J. Tallent and Martha Williams Tallent.

She married the love of her life, Charles M. Helton in November 1946. The couple moved to Manchester shortly thereafter from Oak Ridge, TN. In earlier years, Mrs. Helton was employed as a hostess at the AEDC Officer’s Club. This position suited her well, as she was known to have never met a stranger and she constantly radiated a special charm that made people she met feel welcomed. She was an active member of the Tullahoma Ladies Club for many years and also a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Manchester. She and her husband, Charles have enjoyed traveling all over the United States and parts of Canada. She enjoyed the western parts of the US including Idaho and the Grand Canyon. She loved her children and grandchildren beyond measure and will be greatly missed by all.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Gertrude Botts, Oscar Tallent, Beecher Tallent, Alma Graves and Ralph Tallent.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Charles M. Helton of Manchester; three children, Linda Ghorbani of Murfreesboro; Richard Helton and wife, Linda also of Hillsboro; and Dinah Walker and husband, David of Murfreesboro, TN; three grandchildren, Tracy Todd and husband, Tracy; Susan Ghorbani and Nathan Walker; also surviving are two brothers, Jack Tallent of Watts Bar, TN and Bob Tallent and wife, Joyce of Lenoir City, TN and a special niece, Barbara Sue Aheron; a special lifelong best friend, Louise Morgan and numeroust other nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

7/25/12 —- J. D. Martin

Mr. J.D. Martin, age 94, of Tullahoma, passed away Monday at Life Care Center in Tullahoma.

He is a native of Moore Co., TN and is the son of the late Arthur and Floy Tims Martin.

Mr. Martin was retired from Worth Sporting Goods in Tullahoma, attended Thompson Creek Baptist Church and was a farmer.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Martin of Tullahoma, son, Kenneth Martin of Lynchburg, grandchildren, Dale Martin, Trisha Landers, Teresa Roberts, great grandchildren, Emett Landers, Lexie Roberts, Abby Roberts and Savannah Carr.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, from 11:00AM until 1:00PM at the Tullahoma Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00PM in the Tullahoma Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jack Hice officiating.

Burial will follow in the Smith Chapel Cemetery in Moore Co.

7/27/12 — Vickie Parks

Vickie Parks age 69 of Decherd, passed away July 22, 2012 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center.

Ms. Parks enjoyed watching tennis, dog shows and horse shows. In her younger years she was an avid golfer. In her spare time she loved working in her flower garden.

Ms. Parks is preceded in death by her father, Clarence Wilkinson and husband, Charles Parks, Jr.

She is survived by her son, Charles (Shannon) Parks; granddaughters, Alexus Parks, Ellen Parks, Cieanna (Brad) Sisk; great-grandson, Lukas Sisk; daughter-in-law, Angie Parks (Billy Watson); sisters, Frankie (Sam) ERisentrout, Jackie (Ken) Royer; mother, Francis June Wilkinson.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday, July 27, 2012 at 1pm from the chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home.

Interment will follow in Watson-North Memorial Park with friends and family serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 6-9pm at Watson-North Funeral Home. 

7/26/12 — Annie Katherine Smith

Annie Katherine Smith, age 70 of Lynchburg, Tennessee passed away on Monday, July 23, 2012, at her home.

She was born November 18, 1941 in Winchester; the daughter of the late Chester and Viola (Stephens) Keith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Randy Williams and brother, Bobby Keith.

Surviving are sons, Stanley Keys of Texas and Joey Williams of Lynchburg, TN, daughters, Vivian Keys O’Neal of Georgia, Sandra (David) Williams Bush of Lynchburg, TN, Lisa Williams Spann of Clarksville, TN, Kimberly (Scott) Williams Hoffman of Phillips, WI, Sarah (Justin) Smith Eckert of Phillips, WI, Karen (Travis) Smith DeLeasky of Phillips, WI and Vicki Walls of Phillips, WI, brothers, Eugene Keith, Douglas Keith and Leslie Keith, sisters, Shirley Brewer, Mae Whitsett, Delores Wilson, Betty (Humes) Williams, Linda (Ricky) Wilson, Melinda (Doug) Swann and Melissa Aarick.

A Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday in the Moore-Cortner Chapel. Interment will be in Cumberland Cemetery.

7/25/12 — Elizabeth M. Smith

Elizabeth M. Smith, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Sunday, July 22nd, 2012, her 93rd birthday, at her residence.

Born in Moore County to the late John W. and Ida Tankersley Martin.

Mrs. Smith worked during her life for Worth Sports as a baseball sewer and was a member of Hoover’s Grove Church of Christ for her entire life.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband, William Ralph Smith, who died in 1979; two daughters, Julia Fay and Laura Kay Smith (1946); two sisters, Docia Coop (1980) and Mary Pollock (2000); one son-in-law, Joey Perkins (1994); one great granddaughter, Brooke Estfon (2006); and one granddaughter-in-law, Robin Smith (2011).

Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, Jonathan Smith and his wife Karla of Tullahoma and Jerry Smith and his wife Gayle of Huntland; two daughters, Judy Robinson and her husband Dwight of Moore County and Joy Perkins-Johnson and her husband Bob of Tullahoma; one sister Louella Pyle of Tullahoma; two nieces, Virginia Smith of Tullahoma and Suzanne Enzfelder of Orlando, Florida; one grandson, Robert Smith; 10 grandaughters, Kaylee Smith, Jill Estfon and her husband Jayson, Lora Fanning and her husband Brian, Ginny Brotemarkle and her husband Wade, Corynn Moyers and her husband Ed, McKenzi Fanning and her husband Michael, Amy Smith, Jana Smith, Shelley Freeman and her husband Dave, and Holli Lawson and her husband Mike; one honorary grandson, Travis Moore and his wife Carrie; one honorary granddaughter, Destiny Maddle; one very special former daughter-in-law, Yvonne Moore; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 24th, 2012 from 5:00-8:00pm at Kilgore Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 25th, 2012 at 10:00am at Hoover’s Grove Church of Christ with Bro’s. Jim Sanders, Pat Allison officiating.

Pallbearers will be Mike Lawson, Dave Freeman, Michael Fanning, Ed Moyers, Wade Brotemarkle, Jayson Estfon, Brian Fanning, Travis Moore and Robert Smith.

Burial will follow at Hoover’s Grove Cemetery.

7/24/12 — Evelyn Keeling Koch

Graveside services for Mrs. Evelyn Keeling Koch, age 86 of Manchester will be conducted Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Blanton’s Chapel Cemetery with Kirk DeVore, Postulant for Holy Orders officiating.

Mrs. Koch passed away Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Raintree Manor in McMinnville, TN.

She was born December 31, 1925 in Manchester, the daughter of the late Eugene C. and Minnie E. Buckley Keeling.

She was an Administrator in the Food Service Industry. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Manchester. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and making dolls. She loved animals including her dogs and her pet parakeet “Baby”, who lived with her at Raintree Manor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry D. Koch; two brothers Lloyd and Wayne Keeling and one great grandson, Christian Keeling Foote.

Mrs. Koch is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Knapik Rutledge of Manchester; two sisters, Polly Wells of Manchester and Zalah Anderson and her husband, Maurice of Manchester; one sister-in-law, Naioma Keeling of Manchester; two grandchildren, Kelly Foote of Manchester and Kirk Devore and his wife, Betsy of Hagerstown, MD and one great granddaughter, Josie Foote.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blanton’s Chapel Cemetery or Blanton’s Chapel Methodist Church.

7/24/12 — Stanley Seagrove

Mr. Stanley Seagroves age 81 of Coalmont, Tennessee went to be with the Lord on July 22, 2012 at Alive Hospice, in Nashville.

He loved being outdoors farming, stacking wood or just piddling. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Coalmont.

Mr. Seagroves was preceded in death by his loving wife Mrs. Jewell Seagroves; his parents Lawerence and Effie Mae Seagroves; son John Kennedy (Doc) Seagroves; granddaughter Erika Seagroves; sisters Edna Seagroves, Ruby Seagroves, and Evey (Chili) Seagroves.

Survivors include his children Pam Campbell, and Dean (Cindy) Seagroves; sister Patsy Kilgore; brothers Curtis, Gabe, and Alvin Seagroves; grandchildren Michael Seagroves, Angel Turner, Sandy Dickerson, Amy Davidson, Alicia Smartt, Haley Campbell, and Candace Seagroves; great-grandchildren Emma Seagroves, Justice Turner, Allyson Dickerson, Trey Turner, Alex Dickerson, Ella Seagroves, Eli Seagroves, and Jasmine Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services will be 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Antioch Baptist Church in Coalmont. The Reverend Rick Hawkins and Reverend Jimmy King will officiate.

Burial will be in Coalmont Memorial Cemetery.

The family will start receiving friends at 4:00 P.M. on Monday at the church.

7/24/12 — Tommy Lee Russell

Tommy Lee Russell, age 63 of Huntland, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Southern TN Medical Center in Winchester.

He was born November 29, 1948 in Winchester, Tennessee.

He was the husband of Modena Clark Russell. He was employed by AEDC, worked as a farmer and was a store keeper. He served his country in the US Army. Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Russell.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Tommy “T” (Vicki) Russell of Huntland, TN and Richard (Stacy) Russell of Huntland, TN, brother, Larry (Becky) Russell of Huntland, TN; mother, Rosa Nell Russell of Huntland, TN, granddaughters, Amber Nelle Russell, Bethany Russell and Veronica Russell ; and great-granddaughter, Jayci Annelle Sullivan.

A Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with the Rev. Mike Robertson officiating.

Interment will be in Russell Cemetery, Huntland, TN. Serving as pall bearers are, Mark Swafford, Robert Sullivan, Kenny Peters, Steven Smith, Robbie Shockley and Steve Majors.

Mr. Teddy Ray Sanders Age 59 of Tracy City, Tennessee went to be with the Lord on July 20, 2012 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest Milton, and Ola Sanders; brothers Alton (Sourdough) Sanders, and Eddie Lee Sanders; sister Waymona Ware.

Survivors include his loving wife Mrs. Sandra Sanders; sons Brad and his wife Rhea Sanders, and Blake Sanders; grandchildren Aila Wren Sanders, and Elin Lenoir Sanders; brothers Ralph Sanders, and Joe (Fuzz) Sanders; sisters Doris Layne and Linda Nunley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 23, 2012 in the chapel of Foster & Lay Funeral Home, with Reverend Claude Hoback and family friend Mike Partin officiating.

Interment will be in Plainview Cemetery Tracy City, Tennessee.

The family will receive friends 5:00 – 9:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
