Coach Kevin Stallings knows that probably not many people outside the Vanderbilt locker room expect much from the Commodores this season.
The top six scorers are gone from the squad that knocked off Kentucky for the Southeastern Conference tournament championship, Vanderbilt’s first since 1951, with three taken in the NBA draft. Stallings has no seniors with John Jenkins an early departure for the NBA and only two juniors.
Stallings said they know their talent level is not what it was last season and the Commodores’ goal is to be greater together. He said if they can do that, the Commodores will surprise some people.
Vanderbilt is coming off the first three consecutive NCAA tournament berths in school history. Junior Kyle Fuller said the young Commodores are hungry for success.
Vandy’s first game of the year is Nov. 10 at home against Nicholls State. You’ll hear Commodore basketball on Thunder Radio.
