Westwood football got their 10th straight win in dramatic fashion as they scored on the final meaningful play of each half to take a 12 to 8 win over Moore County on Thursday night. On the final play of the 1st half, Byron Sullivan took a reverse around the left side of the line for a 49 yard TD to give the Rockets a 6 to 0 lead at the break. Moore County and Westwood traded possessions in the 3rd quarter before a Westwood fumble gave Moore County a first down at the Westwood 14 yard line. With 1:56 left in the 3rd quarter, lightning in the area sent both teams off the field for a 65 minute lightning delay. Moore County scored their lone TD on the first play of the 4th quarter and converted the all important 2 point conversion. After exchanging punts, Westwood faced a 4th and 9 yards to go from their own 17 yard line with 2:59 left in regulation. Once again, the cardiac kids in blue struck with the big play as Jake Hollandsworth found Marcus Pendleton open on a fly route. Pendleton broke a tackle and raced 83 yards for the deciding score. The Rocket defense forced a turnover on downs and Westwood kneeled on it to seal their victory. After the game, Coach Chad Dyer could not praise the heart of his team. “This team never quit fighting. I am so proud of their heart.” Byron Sullivan led Westwood in rushing with 66 yards and a touchdown. Marcus Pendleton added 21 yards rushing and 83 yards receiving with his huge TD catch.
