He was born on August 15, 1937 in the Stephenson Community to the late Claude M. Johnson and Mollie Stubblefield Johnson.
A 1955 graduate of Manchester Central High School, he later spent 4 years in the US Navy with several tours of duty on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock. He retired from the Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 1986 after 25 years of service as an equipment operator in the shipping department.
