Bethany Homecoming

A homecoming and Memorial Day celebration will be held at Bethany Church on Riley Creek Road on Saturday, May 25 beginning at 11:30. Jack Hice, pastor of Marble Plains Baptist Church will preach with special music by Danny Bell, members of the Harold and Hazel Liner family and Tom and Lisa Mauer.
After the service, a covered dish dinner will be held, and all families of persons buried at Bethany, are invited to attend and enjoy the music, fellowship and good food.
Memorial donations for the upkeep of the cemetery may be sent to Debbie Crownover, 143 Crownover Lane, Normandy, Tn. 37360.
The Good Neighbors Club, an organization of local women, maintains the Bethany Church and Cemetery and organizes the annual Memorial Homecoming, and a July picnic.
Several recent projects include removal of large trees, putting gravel on the adjacent back road, and keeping the cemetery mowed and cleaned and picked up year round.
Bethany Methodist Church, organized sometime prior to 1873, has a rich history in both organized religion and education, having served as both a church and a school. The Tennessee Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and the Coffee County Board of Education sold the church to the Good Neighbors Community Club in 1993.
A history of Bethany church, plus favorite recipes of members of the Good Neighbors Club is available for $10. All proceeds help to maintain the cemetery. For information about the Memorial Day service or the cemetery, call Wilma West Kane, 455-0521.
