1/24/17-SCV CAMP 72 MEETING

SCV CAMP 72 January 24, 2017 MEETING

Maj. Gen. Benjamin F. Cheatham Camp 72 will have their regular dinner meeting at 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the Oak Restaurant in Manchester. The meeting will start at 7:00 P.M.

For program information and the most up to date info, please check our web site at http://www.tennessee-scv.org/camp72/. The speaker will be Jack Carman discussing “The Road to Shiloh.”

Meetings are open to the general public and all War Between the States buffs have a special invitation for the program.

Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to all males 12 years of age and above who had an ancestor that served honorably in the Confederate Armed Forces or the Confederate Congress and can prove kinship either lineal or collaterally. Help is available to anyone interested in finding and proving kinship.

1/31/17—Manchester Recreation Department January Events

Pick-up Futsal
What is Futsal? Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided soccer game that is played on a hard surface like a basketball court. The Manchester Recreation Complex will be host to indoor Futsal pick-up games. Games will start at 1:00 pm. Games are free for members and $5.00 a day for non-members. Players but be 15 years old or older to play. For additional information, please contact the Manchester Parks and Recreation Department at (931) 728-0273.

Little Squirts
Little Squirts is a swim lesson program designed to teach toddlers swimming and water safety skills. The program will start on December 5th and end on February 28th. No registration is required. Classes are offered every Monday and Wednesday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am and every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Cost is $3.00 per class for members of the recreation complex and $5.00 per class for non-members. For additional information, contact the Manchester Parks and Recreation Department at (931) 728-0273.

Lock-in
The Manchester Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a lock-in at the recreation complex for children ages 5 -12 on Friday, January 13th from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. Participants must be pre-registered by Wednesday, January 11th, by registering and paying a fee of $25.00. We will be playing games and swimming. Dinner will be provided.

Walk to Disney World
Get out of the winter blues and go for a walk with us to sunny Florida. Ok, so we won’t actually be walking to Florida, but we will walk/run/bike the miles it would take to get there, with a shortcut or two. Starting on January 16th and going through March 17th, we will be walking to Walt Disney World. The program is FREE! So, signup today! Participants must be registered by the start of the program on January 16th. Those that complete the walk will receive a free gift.

Amazing Family Night
The Manchester Recreation Complex will be the host for another Amazing Family Night on Friday, January 20th, from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm. So, come on out to the Manchester Recreation Complex for free with an adult and enjoy swimming, the youth wellness room, basketball gym, free snacks, health assessments and information, and more!

American Red Cross Blood Drive
The American Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at the Manchester Recreation Complex on Monday, January 30th from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

Sunday, January 1st

New Year, New Trail, Hike at Denny Cove (
The hike will be an approximately 4 mile round trip that will include
some very rugged terrain. Bring plenty of water and dress for the
weather. The entrance to Denny Cove is located approximately 2 miles
south of the Foster Falls entrance and is across the street from the
Foster Falls Volunteer Fire Department building (5900 US 41, Sequatchie,
TN). We will meet at 10 am in the Denny Cove parking lot. To find the
lot, turn down the gravel road across from the fire department. The lot
is located approximately one mile from the highway on the right side of
the Denny access road.

Join Ranger Jessie McNeel on a 5.5 mile moderate hike to see one of
Savage Gulf’s many waterfalls, Savage Falls, and also get a chance to see
the scenic Rattle Snake Point overlook as well. This will be a moderate
hike so please wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water and
snacks. Weather is unpredictable this time of year so please take a look
at the forecast ahead of time and dress for the weather!

Join Ranger Park at the Foster Falls parking lot for an easy 5 mile out
and back hike to see one of the more sweeping views on the Fiery Gizzard

Enjoy the geologic beauty of Suter Falls. This impressive feature marks
the head of the Collins Gulf. This is a relatively steep 2 mile round
trip hike. Meet Ranger Gheesling at the Collins West trailhead.

Hiking Through History (1.3 miles, moderate)
Meet Ranger Park at the Grundy Lakes parking lot for a look into the
turbulent past of the coal mining industry that created much of the
region by hiking a moderate 2.3 miles. Our history is full of tragedy and
comedy so come on out with a healthy curiosity to learn more! Please wear
sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water.

Meet Ranger Aaron at the Greeter Falls parking lot for a moderate 2-mile
hike around the Greeter Falls Loop trail. We will be hiking past both
Greeter Falls and Boardtree Falls, two of the most beautiful waterfalls
on the Plateau. Bring water/snack, and wear sturdy shoes.

one with a red light).

survive, but thrive in the colder temperatures! Please wear sturdy
footwear and bring water.

The staff and congregation of Manchester First United Methodist Church
invites you to a candle light Christmas Eve service, this coming Saturday,
