THE TARTAN TERRORS COME TO SJCC FRIDAY APRIL 25

Contributed by Anita Zaccardi

The Celtic sounds of The Tartan Terrors, the last show of the season for the Performing Arts Series at South Jackson Civic Center, will take the stage by storm on Friday, April 25, 2014, at 7:30 P.M.

This show is a high energy, fun-filled, musically exciting combination of talents from six performers who have shared their expertise of instruments, vocals, and comedy with audiences throughout four continents.  Celtic Magazine claims them to be “heirs apparent to the Celtic mayhem.”

The Tartan Terrors have performed at Highland Games and Theatres of North America; Lone Tree Center for the Arts, Colorado; Strand Capital, Pennsylvania; Oshkosh Opera House, Wisconsin; Dublin Irish Festival, Ohio; and Newport Irish Festival, Rhode Island, just to name a few.

Key performers are Ellen Wilkes Irmisch, Co-Director since 1996, dancer and vocalist, with a long list of venues.

Ian Wilkes Irmisch, Co-Director with his sister, is a player of the bodhran and percussion, and sings.  He has performed extensively in Canada, the U.S. and Great Britain.

Daniel Pentecost, on fiddle, bagpipes, and mandolin, attended Belmont University and performed with Blair School of Music in Nashville and several other groups.

Jon McCann, a talented percussionist, comfortable with Celtic, classical, and jazz, is a teacher and performer throughout Canada and the U.S.  Jon directs his own recording studio and has a long list of accomplishments and venues.

Phill Hood, guitarist and singer-songwriter, is a native of Newfoundland, and studied in Toronto.  He is in his third year with the Tartan Terrors.

Jake Saenz, bass guitarist, is multi-talented in genres of hard rock, country, folk and jazz. He is a native of Toronto.

The show at South Jackson Civic Center will have a wide appeal from teenagers to seniors.  It mixes rock’s energy with traditional folklore, dance, and humor.

To entertain us all, The Tullahoma A Cappella Singers will perform prior to the featured show.  House doors will open by 7:00.

Another very special feature of the evening will be artist Tracy Suggs, who will have several pieces of her Celtic artwork on display in the front reception room.  Be sure to allow extra time to view the art before the show and during intermission.  Tracy, a well-known sculptor, will be available to meet the viewers.

Terrors Truck Sellersville, PA 2013 Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students.  Reservations can be made by calling 931-455-5321 or e-mail sojack@lighttube.net.  Tickets can now be purchased online by going to www.southjackson.org.

The Mitchell Museum and the concession stand will also be open for the evening.

Partial grants from the Tennessee Arts Commission help to provide funding for the Performing Arts Series.  Many local sponsors, whose signs are featured at SJCC, also help to fund these events.
