The Tennessee Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) will hold a grave marking service for SAR Patriot, David Hickerson, at Granny Hickerson Cemetery in Manchester. The cemetery is adjacent to the entrance of the Old Stone Fort State Park Golf Course in the Country Club subdivision. The public is invited to the event, which will be held on Saturday, October 26, at 11am.
There will be a Color Guard ceremony, the laying of wreaths, and the bringing of greetings from various SAR and Daughters of the American Revolution chapters.
It’s being sponsored by the following SAR chapters: James Madison (Jackson, TN area), Stones River (based in Murfreesboro), and Joseph Greer, which serves Lincoln, Moore, Bedford, Coffee, and Franklin counties.
John, a son of David and Nancy Hickerson is often referred to as “the Father of Coffee County.”
Many Hickerson descendants still reside in Coffee County and other counties in Tennessee. They, along with anyone interested in history and patriotic observances, are encouraged to attend the service.
Light refreshments will be served immediately after the grave marking. For further information, please contact: Bill Hickerson at 731-217-0782.
