Thursday afternoon just after 2pm an emergency call was reported of heavy smoke coming from Truckers Lane behind the BP Station and Truckers Inn on the Hillsboro Hwy. The fire was inside the Hillsboro jurisdiction. Hillsboro received assistance from Manchester Fire and Rescue, Summitville Fire Department, AEDC, The State Forestry and Manchester Police. The fire burned approximately 40-50 acres.
Manchester Fire Chief George DeShields said all of those who worked the grass fire did a great job controlling the fire from reaching any homes or buildings.
The New Union Fire Department responded to a house fire at 1175 Lumley Stand Road early Thursday morning.
The house was owned by Anthony Dewey Rayburn. The home was deemed to be a total loss.
Firefighters were called back to the scene later in the day when the flames started back up. The New Union Fire Department was able to bring the fire under control.
No injuries were reported.
