The Red Raiders and Lady Raiders of Coffee County Central High School made the long trek to Lawrenceburg on Friday night to take on Lawrence County in District 8AAA basketball action. The home standing Wildcats used the capacity home crowd to shipwreck the Raiders on “Beach Night” as they swept the district doubleheader.
In the girl’s contest, Coffee County missed a 15 footer as time expired to spoil the upset as they fell to Lawrence County by a final of 41 to 40. Coffee County finished the game on a 15 to 6 run to narrowly miss getting their first district win of the year. Coffee County was led in scoring by Cameron Davis and Sara Brown who each netted 8 points. Tyger Fenton and Aerial Williams added 6 points and Katie Reid got 5 points, with all of them coming in the final 2 minutes. For their great effort, the Lady Raider TEAM was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game.
With the loss, Coffee County fell to 5 and 13 on the year and 0 and 6 in district play.
In the boy’s game, a disastrous 1st quarter saw Coffee County miss several shots in close, while Lawrence County raced out to a 24 to 8 lead. Coffee battled back to cut the deficit to 6 points early in the 4th quarter, but could get no closer, falling by a final score of 59 to 43. Coffee County was led in scoring by Lucas Crismond who poured in 20 points. J.P. Duncan added 12 points for the Red Raiders and was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game. With the loss, Coffee County fell to 5 and 11 on the season and 2 and 4 in district play.
Coffee County will be home on Monday night as they welcome Shelbyville to “The Patch.” The girl’s game will tip off at 6:00 PM and we will begin our broadcast with the Lawrence Family Motors Pregame Show at 5:50.
