Philip Geiser Rossman Sr. of Tullahoma, passed this life on Thursday, January 9th, 2014 at Emeritus at Tullahoma at the age of 94.
Mr. Rossman was born in Waynesboro, PA to the late Adolphus H. and Lois Eliza Geiser Rossman.
Mr. Rossman was Veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Chief Warrent Officer throughout World War II, and a Master Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, Mr. Rossman went to work for the Chris-Craft Co. in Atlanta for several years, and the Lockheed Corporation in Marietta for 4 years. He then began work as an Instrument Technician at Arvin/Calspan at AEDC for 24 years before his retirement on July 1, 1982.
Mr. Rossman was member of the Mensa Society, the VFW, American Legion, and the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA). He was a volunteer with Hospice of the Highland Rim from 1996-2008 and received the Volunteer of the Year Award during that time, as well as the Tullahoma Kiwanis Club, where he was honored as the Volunteer of the Year in 2005.
Mr. Rossman was a private pilot and sailor, which were two of his greatest passions in life. He also had a love for walking, and was often seen around town on his daily walks from Emeritus to the Tullahoma Airport, or to Hardees where he and his pilot friends would meet to drink coffee and reminisce about their flying days.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Rossman is preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Rossman who passed away in 1961 after 20 years of marriage, and one sister, Margaret Delk.
Mr. Rossman is survived by his wife, Sue Rossman of Tullahoma; 3 sons, Philip G. Rossman Jr. and wife Linn of Kathleen, GA, Joe Rossman and wife Pam of Pine Island, FL, and Dan Rossman of Allons, TN; one brother, Carl Rossman of California; 4 grandchildren, Valerie Rossman of Tullahoma, Dawn Warren and husband Jimmy of Shelbyville, Jennifer Alsup and husband Trey of Lascassas, and Jeff Rossman and wife Teresa of Nashville; 12 great-grandchildren, Dakota, Shelby, Dillon, Alex, Bailey, Phoebe, Sydney, Carly, Emily, Josh, Michael, and Caitlin.
A memorial service for Mr. Rossman will be held at a later date.
