Funeral services for Mrs. Rachel Beitia Christian, age 89 of Manchester, TN will be conducted Monday, November 4, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother Ray Marcrom officiating.
Interment will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Coffee County.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Christian passed at 12:34pm, Friday, November 1, 2013 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
She was born November 27, 1923 in Ponce, Puerto Rico to Cosme Beitia and Julia Arroyo Beitia. She married Vaughn Worth Christian on July 21, 1944, and he preceded her in death on March 19, 2009. Mrs. Christian was a long time resident of Manchester, TN. She graduated from high school in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico where she was an active athlete (basketball and track). When she first arrived in the United States she worked on the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, TN. Mrs. Christian devoted her remaining years to supporting her family as a homemaker.
She loved gardening, movies, shopping and traveling. Mrs. Christian was known for her ability to bring joy and laughter to all she touched. She was known for her magnificent flower gardens exceptional cooking talent and spending time with her beloved family.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and four siblings.
Surviving are her six children, Rod(Teri) Christian of Manchester, TN, Susie(John) Lee of Murfreesboro, TN, Sandy(Vernon) Miller of Belvidere, TN, Sonia(David) Sain of Murfreesboro, TN, Fletcher(Debbie) Christian of Crawfordville, FL, and Charlotte Christian of Manchester, TN; ten grandchildren, Shawnya (Michael) Black of Murfreesboro, TN, Chris(Gretchen) Leming of Spring Hill, TN, Holly(Christian) Pearson of Murfreesboro, TN, Ben(Sarah) Leming of Annapolis, MD, Rachel(Bob) Bruner of Chattanooga, TN, Brad(Krystal) Christian of Manchester, TN, Alex(Tristan) Christian of Manchester, TN, Jessica(Jeff) Leech of Murfreesboro, TN, Taylor Christian currently stationed in San Diego, CA with the US Navy, and Nikki Christian of Crawfordville, FL; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one brother Julio(Charlota) Beitia of CA.
