David Gordon Jenkins of Manchester and three other Manchester area men were indicted by the April term of the Franklin County Grand Jury for the murder of Corey Matthews last March and leaving his body in a cornfield near a cemetery in Cowan.
Authorities arrested Manchester area residents Cody Keith Holmes, John Corey Lanier and Todd Eugene Dalton for their parts in the murder of Matthews. But Jenkins skipped the state and was the subject of a massive search by law enforcement agencies.
According to Franklin County Sheriff Tim Fuller, the four men have connections with white supremacist groups the Aryan Nation and the Aryan Brotherhood.
After leaving the state, Jenkins was placed on the TBI’s Most Wanted List and was the subject of a nationwide search by the U.S. Marshal’s office. Authorities in New York were placed on alert for him as he has relatives living in the upstate area of that state. Authorities in Texas were also placed on alert for him as well.
On Sept. 9, 2013 a joint drug task force in New Mexico captured Jenkins after a traffic stop.
After battling extradition, Jenkins was ordered to be returned to Franklin County to face the charges. Franklin County Investigators Capt. Mike Bell, Robert Tipps and Bear Brewer traveled to New Mexico to get Jenkins and return him to Winchester.
According to Sheriff Fuller the accused men are being housed in other jails for security reasons.
