Mrs. Florence Mae Hickerson, age 96 of Manchester and longtime Coffee County resident, peacefully passed over to be with our Lord, Monday, September 30, 2013.
She was one of seven siblings, born March 11, 1917 in Lafollette, TN to the late Maynard Wright and Minnie Sharp Wright. As a beautiful, young woman, she was joined in marriage to the late Eldridge L. Hickerson on October 17, 1936 in Lafollette, where Mr. Hickerson was employed with the Civil Conservation Corp. Early in their marriage, they relocated to Mr. Hickerson’s birthplace, Manchester, TN and raised eleven children. Mrs. Hickerson devoted her life to her home and family. She was a fun-loving lady, known for her large home-cooked meals, delicious biscuits and was proud of her American Cherokee heritage. She enjoyed bluegrass music and dancing at the Manchester and Tullahoma Senior Citizens Centers.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Eldridge L. Hickerson, her beloved daughter, Geneva “Ginger” Beaty of Manchester, three sons-in-law, Darrel McCullough, Silas Nelms both of Manchester and Jerry Tawwater of Tullahoma, and a great-granddaughter, Amber Kerr of Winchester, TN.
Mrs. Hickerson is survived by ten other children and their spouses; E. Jewell Morris of Tullahoma, TN; Betty L. Nelms of Manchester, TN; Don H. and Delores Hickerson of Hendersonville, TN; Barbara J. and Vance McMahan of Manchester, TN; James M. and Brenda Hickerson of Spencer, TN; William W. and Cynthia Hickerson of Manchester, TN; Thomas D. and Pirleen Hickerson of Manchester, TN; Patricia E. Stover of Tullahoma, TN; Robert D. Hickerson of Manchester, TN; Jerry P. and Brenda Hickerson of Dayton, TN and a brother-in-law, Jack Hickerson of Manchester, TN. Mrs. Hickerson will always be remembered with love by all her children, 33 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel.
Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 2, 2013 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel.
