The Raiders took an early lead after a 62-yard punt return for a TD from Cody Howes. Warren County used a good mix of running and passing to battle back and take a 12-7 lead and held the advantage after a TD, field goal and a safety. They would hold the lead the rest of the game.
Coffee County Senior QB Peyton Meeker passed for 260 yards and TD pass to Chris Vaughn in the loss. Reese Pratt scored on a short run for the other Raider touchdown.
Meeker took a big hit while making a pass with 57 seconds left in the game that knocked him unconscious for a short period. Meeker was taken by Coffee County EMS to United Regional Hospital. The 3 year starter at QB had a CAT Scan and was diagnosed with a concussion, swelling at the back of his neck near the top of the spinal cord and numbness to his left arm and hand. After checking with Meeker’s Dad on Saturday he said his son feeling better but was sore and a slight numbness remained. On Sunday the numbness (tingling) was gone and Meeker said he will be back.
LB Justin Smith was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center Player of the Game.
The Red Raiders now sport a 0-4 record. They take the field next when they host Lawrence County for a District 8-AAA challenge on Friday in Manchester. Coffee County will meet a Wildcats team coming off a 35-17 non-district win over Loretto. The Wildcats record now stands at 2-2.
