The COMPASS test (College Placement Tests) will be administered on various dates at all Motlow College sites before fall classes begin, according to Sonya Hood, director of disability and testing services at the college.
Hood said students planning to enroll at Motlow for the fall semester who need to take the COMPASS, which is used to assess a student’s readiness for college-level work, should do so as soon as possible. Potential students who are 21 years of age or older must take all three portions (reading, writing, and math) of the test unless they have valid ACT scores on file. Those who present valid ACT scores will be placed in academic courses according to the same provisions as students who are under 21 years of age.
The COMPASS is not a pass/fail test, and test results do not determine whether or not a student is admitted to the college. Hood explained that test results determine which courses are best suited to the student’s level of readiness, and that each test component has a separate score to determine a student’s placement.
The test will be administered according to the following schedule:
Moore County Campus
July 15 – 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
July 22 – 9 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m.
July 29 – 9 a.m.
Aug. 5 – 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Aug. 12 – 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
July 19 and 23 – 6 p.m.
July 24 – 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Aug. 6 – 6 p.m.
Aug. 7 – 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 12 p.m.
Aug. 20 – 6 p.m.
July 12 and 19 – 12:30 p.m., 12:45 p.m., 1 p.m., and 1:15 p.m.
July 26 – 8 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.
July 19 and 26, Aug. 2 and 9, and Aug. 16 and 23 – 9 a.m. each day
All test materials, including calculators, are furnished, and there is no charge the first time a student takes the test. Before taking the test, students must have on file in Motlow’s admissions office the following: a completed admissions application, official high school and/or college transcripts, and if applicable, official test scores. Special accommodations are available for students who require other than standard conditions for taking the test.
