Mary Fern May, passed away on Saturday, June 15th, 2013 at the home of her daughter at the age of 85.
Mrs. May was born in Randolph County, Alabama to the late Frank B. and Bessie Mae Cooper Turner.
During her life, Mrs. May worked for several years for the Callaway Company in LaGrange, Georgia as a textile seamstress before opening a childcare business in her home. Numerous children were loved and nurtured by Mrs. May over a twenty-five year career. She was also a talented crocheter who created beautiful needlework that was enjoyed by family and friends. Mrs. May was a long time member of the Park Avenue Church of Christ in LaGrange, Georgia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Benjamin Franklin May; two brothers, John and Herman Turner; and four sisters, Julia Holiday, Loyette Lewis, Frankie Sims and Stella Brown.
Mrs. May is survived by one daughter, Rebecca May Mitchell and her husband David of Tullahoma; two sons, Dwayne May and his wife Janice of Montgomery, Alabama and LaVaughn May and his wife Patty of Opelika, Alabama; one sister-in-law, Ruby Turner of LaGrange, Georgia; grandchildren, John, Paul, Sara and Luke Mitchell and Tim, Melinda, Jonathan, Jason and Jeremy May; and great-grandchildren, Paxton, Jamie, Hannah, Noah, Aiden, Audrey and Brady.
Visitation for Mrs. May will be held on Wednesday, June 19th, 2013 from 12:00-2:00pm at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home in LaGrange, Georgia with a graveside service to follow at 2:30pm at Shadow Lawn Cemetery with her son-in-law, David Mitchell officiating.
