As Aaron Holland heads toward his second season as head basketball coach of the Motlow Lady Bucks, he has announced recent signees who will enter Motlow as freshmen in August and be part of the 2013-14 squad.
Alexis Smith – Huntland
Smith is a 6-0 post who averaged 17.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, over two steals and 1.4 blocked shots per game as a senior. She scored over 1,500 points during her career and was voted to the All-District 9A regular season and tournament team.
“Alexis brings some much needed size and scoring to our team. She flew under the radar all year long and we were fortunate to build a relationship with her and her family and get her to sign at Motlow,” said Holland. “She can go as high as she wants to go with her size, skill, and physicality. Her ability to finish around the basket and play physical is something we lacked last season, and she will help us fill a void in that area.”
In addition to the three area players, Holland has signed a pair of teammates from Montgomery Central High School in Clarksville.
LaPietra is a 6-1 center who averaged seven points, five rebounds and two blocked shots per game as a senior at the Clarksville school.
“Andi is an athletic post player who was a two-sport athlete at Montgomery Central,” said Holland. “Because of her volleyball background she is able to block and alter a lot of shots. Now that she can focus solely on basketball at Motlow, she has the potential to be an incredible player for us.”
Carter is a 5-6 guard who averaged eight points, four rebounds and three steals per game for the Indians as a senior.
“Taya is an incredible athlete who was one of the spark plugs on defense for her team at Montgomery Central,” added Holland. “She is super quick and can be a lockdown defender. Offensively she was an incredible penetrator and rarely settled for a bad shot. I look forward to watching Taya develop her game at Motlow.”
