Hunter Smithson got things started for Coffee County with an RBI single in the 1st inning to take a 1-0 lead over Warren County Tuesday in McMinnville. The baseball Raiders were looking to get two wins in a row over the Pioneers. Coffee County continued its hot hitting and picked up the important district win. Coffee County scored 3 in the 2nd as Peyton Meeker had the big hit with a 2 run single to make it 4-0. Warren Co. scored one run later in the game but the Raiders added a run in the 7th as Meeker scored on an error to make the score 5-1. The Pioneers pushed across one run in the 7th to make the final Coffee County 5-Warren County 2. J.P. Duncan was big on defense as he turned a great double-play in the 7th to help the Raiders get the win.
Kyle Douglas was the winning pitcher and John Reese Gilmer got the save. Douglas also added 2 hits and was named the Gateway Tire and Service Player of the Game.
Coffee Co. finished in 2nd place in the district and will host the Pioneers on Monday night in the first game of the District 6-AAA tournament. The Raiders play at Tullahoma tonight (May 1) starting at 6pm you can hear the game on our sister station WHMT 105.1FM or Tullahomaradio.com.
