Motlow Sports Information
Faced with diminishing postseason possibilities, the Motlow Bucks are in need of wins this weekend when they host TCCAA rival Dyersburg State in a three-game series at the Driver Baseball Complex on the Moore County campus.
The Bucks (22-19, 5-13) saw their hopes for a trip to the TCCAA tournament take a hit last weekend when they dropped three straight on the road at Cleveland State. A Tuesday extra inning loss to non-conference Lawson State leaves the Bucks on a four-game slide and in need of victories.
Only the top four finishers in the final TCCAA baseball standings will participate in the conference tournament, which begins May 3 at Volunteer State in Gallatin. In previous years all teams played in the tournament, but the league is experimenting with the new format this season and it is unknown whether only the top four teams will be invited in the future.
Dyersburg State (23-10, 11-6) is in third place in the standings, just behind nationally-ranked Chattanooga State and Walters State. Cleveland State holds down the fourth spot, but no team has been mathematically eliminated from the postseason.
Friday’s series opener between Motlow and Dyersburg is set to begin with a single game at 2 p.m. The two teams will then conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
