A jury will be seated on June 24-25 to hear accusations that Tyrone L. Watts, 43, uttered the threats two days before the Sandy Hook school shooting last December, resulting in two counts of filing a false report.
Watts is accused of threatening to return to the school with an AK-47 and kill everyone and himself. A pre-trial hearing has been set for June 6.
According to the Shelbyville Times-Gazette, Circuit Court Judge Lee Russell told Watts Thursday this was his last chance to make a plea, and that one would not be accepted after that day. When asked if he couldn’t come to an agreement with prosecutors, Watts only said “no, sir.”
The alleged incident occurred on Dec. 12 after Watts and his wife, the mother of his stepson, were denied permission to check the child out of Thomas Magnet early since a letter of permission had not been supplied by the child’s custodial parent.
Watts was indicted last month by the Bedford County grand jury on the charges and is currently free on $20,000 bond.
