Police have issued a warning to seniors about a scam that is operating in the area. A resident of Bel Aire area in Tullahoma received a call from an individual claiming to be with the Social Security Administration and that she was getting new Medicare card. The scammers told their intended victim that to issue her a new card they needed her banking account number, including the routing number. When Juanita Young refused to provide the information the caller threatened to cancel her Social Security card. She said that caller ID showed that the call was from Texas. Young stated that she hoped that other individuals would do the same thing she did if they receive a call and hang up on them. Police urge residents to not give out their banking account numbers, because a legitimate organization such as Social Security would not calling asking for a banking account number.
