Franklin County Sheriff Tim Fuller plans to meet with District Attorney Mike Taylor to update him on the murder investigation of 26 year old Corey Matthews of Cowan. Matthews was found murdered Sunday afternoon in a cornfield on Slag Town Road in Cowan. Sheriff Tim Fuller said that it is obvious that several individuals were involved in the murder. The investigation is currently focused on a number of individuals, but none of those suspects are residents of Franklin County. Police started searching for Matthews Sunday afternoon after his family reported him missing. Cowan Police Officer Mike Holmes then found Matthews’ badly beaten body in the cornfield. An autopsy by the state Medical Examiner determined that he died of blunt force trauma. Since the discovery of the body, Franklin County and Coffee County Sheriff’s investigators have questioned a number of individuals in the Coffee County area.
