Mrs. Slosek was born July 24th, 1912 to Harry W. and Bessie D. Holt in South Lyndeboro, New Hampshire.
She graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1934 and taught at Troy and Wilton High School. In 1938 she married Dr. Edward F. Slosek, who had just been commissioned a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps and for the next 22 years, enjoyed being a “Navy Wife,” living in interesting places such as Hawaii, the Panama Canal, East and West Coast and also got to teach school while living in Guam. In 1958, Mrs. Slosek and her husband retired to Tallahassee, Florida where he was the head of the Florida State University Hospital and team doctor for the FSU Seminoles, thus began an interest and love of the Seminoles which she never lost. Her husband was in private practice for 25 years and after his death in 1983, Mrs. Slosek moved to Tullahoma. While in Tallahassee, Mrs. Slosek was deeply involved in community activities. She was past president of the Kappa Delta Alumnae, the Leon County Medical Auxiliary, the Pan-Hellenic Association and the Retired Officers Wives’ Association. She was Vice-President of the Florida Medical Auxiliary and was a charter member of the Calvary Methodist Church, as well as President of The Calvary Methodist Women. In Tullahoma, Mrs. Slosek continued her activities, which included being an Elder Emeritus at First Christian Church, and a member of the D.A.R. and A.E.D.C Women’s Club. She was one of the founders and member of the Retired Officers’ Wives Group, a board member of the Motlow College Foundation and the University of New Hampshire Presidents Council.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Slosek is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edward F. Slosek; two brothers, Parker and Kenneth Holt; one sister, Libby Ferrell; and one son-in-law, Steve Ennis.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Ennis of Tullahoma and Carol Russell of Jacksonville, FL; two grandchildren, Jordan Ennis and his wife Ginger of Tullahoma and Holly Proctor and her husband Palmer of Atlanta, GA; and five great grandchildren, Holland, Sarah and Palmer III Proctor of Atlanta, GA and Steven and Landon Ennis of Tullahoma.
Visitation for Mrs. Slosek will be held on Saturday, March 30th, 2013 from 1:00-2:30pm at First Christian Church with the funeral service to immediately follow at 2:30 with Rev. Tom Murdock officiating.
Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
