The Coffee County Red Raider baseball team opened play in the Warrior Spring Classic on Tuesday night at home hosting the Warriors of Riverdale. 9 unearned runs in the top of the 3rd inning busted open a tight contest and allowed Riverdale to bang out the 14 to 2 win. Coffee County scored its 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd as Tyler Bradshaw and Wyatt Day scored on an infield fielder’s choice by Jacob Prater. Riverdale ace, and Vanderbilt commitment, Collin Snyder held the Raiders to 3 hits in 4 innings of work. Coffee County got hits from Day, Peyton Meeker and Kyle Douglas on the night. The Raiders also got a sparking defensive play from shortstop Meeker as he turned an unassisted double play in the 5th inning to kill a Riverdale rally. With his contributions, Meeker earned the Gateway Tire and Service Center Player of the Game honors.
Coffee County will be back in action at 6 PM Wednesday night at home taking on LaVergne in a makeup game from Monday night. They resume tournament play on Thursday taking on Ezell Harding at 4:30 PM at Shelbyville Central High.
