Corey Matthews found dead over the weekend
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says they are looking into the death of Corey N. Matthews, 26, of Cowan. They say authorities found his body in a field near Jackson Cemetery on Sunday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. Police officers in Cowan began looking for Matthews after family members filed a report saying they hadn’t been able to contact him since the previous evening. Investigators have ruled Matthews’s death as a homicide. An autopsy performed by the state medical examiner’s office determined that Matthews died of blunt force trauma. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are investigating his death along with the Cowan Police Department.
