An Indiana woman came to Coffee County Friday in hopes of learning information about the murder of her mother. The body of 51-year-old Connie Lou Brown was found partially burned on March 9 in the Summitville Cave rock quarry. She had been shot one time and left in the quarry. Candace Smith of Fort Wayne, IN met with investigators from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department to learn more about her mother’s murder. She said she was shocked when I heard that she had been murdered. She stated that the last time she spoke with her mother was on Feb. 5 when Brown called her to wish her a happy birthday. Smith stated that her mother was so trusting and would “give anything to someone to help them. She just could not believe somebody would kill her mother. Smith stated that she hopes that anyone who saw her mother between March 1 and March 9 would contact the sheriff’s department at 728-3591 or the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
Investigator Chad Partin stated that investigators feel that someone saw Brown the first part of the month. Smith went to the quarry Friday afternoon to get a scene of where her mother’s body was found.
