Rock Quarry Proposal Fails

The Coffee County Commission failed to have the required votes to have the necessary needed votes for a measure to pass even though they had a majority of the votes Tuesday night on a resolution to change zoning laws to allow heavy industry outside the urban growth boundary. This resolution would have allowed several types of industry in the county area including a proposed rock quarry. Supporters of the quarry say that it appears that the proposal is defeated. Those opposed to the quarry cheered when it was announced that even though more commissioners voted to approve the proposal it was not a majority since four commissioners abstained from voting.
