The Coffee County Lady Raiders opened their 2013 softball season in impressive fashion on Tuesday night with a 9 to 1 win over cross county rival Tullahoma. Sophomores Bricen Hunt and Brianna Jones combined for 19 strikeouts while surrendering 5 hits. Hunt got the win as she started and went 4 innings recording 10 strikeouts. Jones came on in the 5th and got all 9 of her outs via the strikeout. The Lady Raiders offense scored in every inning tallying 2 runs in the 1st on RBI’s from Jones and Bethany Baker. The Raiders also added 2 runs in the 6th on an RBI double by Ashlynn Young. Tullahoma got their lone run in the 6th on an RBI single by Lauren Hasty. Danielle Kirkpatrick of the Cats was saddled with the loss.
Coffee was led in hitting by Brianna Jones who was 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and 3 RBI’s. Kelsey Adams was 2 for 4 with an RBI double in the 2nd. Sophomore Brianna Jones was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game. Coffee County starts the season with a 1 and 0 record and Tullahoma will begin at 0 and 1.
Coffee County will be at home on Thursday night as they welcome Shelbyville in a game that was originally scheduled to be played in Shelbyville. 1st pitch will be at 7 PM at Lady Raider Field.
