Two children’s day at Westwood Elementary in Manchester was like no other they had ever had. Their dad came to school to visit them.
Friday (Feb. 22, 2013) in Manchester, 1st Sgt. Galen Moran came to the school to surprise his son and daughter after a several-month deployment in Afghanistan.
In front of a packed gymnasium lined with patriotic banners, students at Westwood Elementary recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang the Star-Spangled Banner.
And when Principal Sandra Morris asked both Moran children what they would say if they could talk to their dad, they didn’t know their hero was in the hallway nearby, ready to spring his surprise.
Everyone in the gym starting chanting red, white and blue and Moran walked into the gym. Tears flowed as he was greeted with a shocked, ecstatic embrace.
His son was running around with excitement and Daddy’s little girl smiled and ran into her Dad’s arms bursting into tears.
Welcome home Sgt. Moran.
