According to information released by Assistant Director of Coffee County Schools Joe Pedigo a settlement has been reached between the school and soccer player parents that sued the system. The suit claimed among other things that the soccer facility behind the Coffee County Middle School was not adequate. The suit was filed a few years back.
Coffee County’s insurance carrier is Tennessee Risk Management Trust. Pedigo said in the letter that Tennessee Risk Management Trust supplied an attorney to represent the school system in this suit. The settlement did not involve any admission of fault on the part of the school system. In the settlement the school system did agree to allow the soccer team to play on Carden-Jarrell field one game per week next fall if the football team is playing at home and two games per week next fall when the football team is playing away. The settlement did specify that the scheduling of these games would have to be worked out with the high school athletic director in conjunction with the middle school and high school football schedule. This agreement is in effect until the new soccer field is completed at the new middle school. Currently, the new middle school is to open July/August of 2014 at which time a new regulation size, lighted soccer field will be available there for high school and middle school soccer teams to play on.
WMSR has also learned that the lawsuit calls for Tennessee Risk Management Trust, to pay attorney fees for the plaintiff’s (parents) in the amount of $37,500.
