The Coffee County Central High Lady Raiders took on Cookeville in the championship game of the District 6AAA basketball tournament held in Sparta. A late Lady Raider rally fell short as Cookeville outlasted the Lady Raiders for the District title with a 49 to 38 win. Coffee County rallied from 8 points down at the half to take a short lived 21 to 20 lead with 4:50 remaining in the 3rd period. Cookeville responded by closing out the period on a 9 to 2 run and never trailed again.
Coffee County was led in scoring by Katie Reid as she finished with 12 points. Ginny Claybourne added 11 points and Alaina Lusk and Missy Jones each added 7. Katie Reid was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center Player of the Game. Coffee County had 3 players named to the All Tournament team. Seniors Ginny Claybourne, Alaina Lusk and Missy Jones were all recognized for their performance throughout the tournament.
The Region 3AAA tournament begins on Friday night and the Lady Raiders (15-14) will host McMinn County (19-8) at 7:00 PM at the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gymnasium. We will have that broadcast beginning at 6:50 with the Lawrence Family Motors Pregame Show.
