Lady Raiders To Play For District Championship

The Coffee County Central High Lady Raiders opened post season play on Saturday afternoon as they took on White County in the semifinal round of the District 6AAA basketball tournament held in Sparta. Coffee County got a hard fought 48 to 39 win. With that win, Coffee County advances to the district finals and guarantees them a home game on Friday night in the first round of the Region 3AAA tournament.
White County took a 15 to 6 lead into the 2nd quarter before the Lady Raiders offense found their traction led by 2 big 1st National Bank 3 pointers from Missy Jones. The Lady Raiders outscored the Warriorettes 13 to 2 in the 2nd quarter to take the 19 to 17 lead into the half. The teams entered the 4th quarter tied at 26 before White County opened up a 5 point lead in the in the first 90 seconds of the final frame. Coffee County hit 11 of 28 free throws down the stretch in the 4th quarter with Ta’Neesa Buchanan dropping 6 free throws down the stretch to lead the come from behind win.
Coffee County was led in scoring by Alaina Lusk and Ginny Clayborne who each had 13 points. Ta’Neesa Buchanan added 12 points and Missy Jones finished with 6. Ta’Neesa Buchanan was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center Player of the Game.
The district tournament continues on Monday from White County as the girl’s will play at 7:30 PM in the District 6AAA finals. We will have that broadcast beginning at 7:20 with the Lawrence Family Motors Pregame Show.
