Funeral services for Mr. Toy D. Roberts, age 91, of Manchester will be conducted Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother Tom Brantley and Brother Vernon Wagnoer officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5:00PM-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Roberts passed away Monday, February 11, 2013 at Heritage Medical Center in Shelbyville, TN.
He was born March 5, 1921 in Cookeville, Tennessee the son of the late Charles Anderson Roberts and Elzie Mae Wilmouth Roberts.
He joined the United States Army November 10, 1941 at Camp Forrest, TN. He served in several battles and campaigns under General Patton during WWII to include, Sicily, North Africa, Naples-Foggia, South France, Rhineland and Rome-Arno. He received the EAMET Service Medal, Bronze Arrowhead and the World War II Victory Medal. It was during his time spent on the banks of the Rhine River that Toy gave his heart to the Lord and became a Christian. This awakening would fuel his passion for a lifelong ministry to serve the Lord by preaching and spreading the word. He was honorably discharged November 15, 1945 at Camp Gordon, GA. Toy was employed for many years as a truck driver for both Shell and Gulf Oil Companies. He was also a farmer whose primary crop for several years was bell peppers as well as dairy farming. In later years upon retirement, Toy enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and was known to have a “green thumb”. He was a longtime member of both the American Legion and the VFW. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by spouses, Vera Harrah McBride Roberts and Mary Margaret Poland Roberts; a son, Toy Randall “Randy” Roberts; brother, Doyle Roberts and a sister, Gladys Roberts Haney.
Survivors include his wife, Wauneti Miller Roberts of Dayton, Ohio; children, Dale Roberts and wife, Diane of Lebanon, TN; Roger Roberts and wife, Sabra of Panama City, FL; daughter-in-law, Becky Hall Roberts of Rockwood, TN; Lester Roberts and wife, Kellye of Manchester, TN; three sisters, Dimple Roberts Allen; Louise Roberts Mayberry and husband, Roscoe; and Rose Roberts Harris, all of Cookeville, TN and several step-children, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
